Our Story

Hawa's Children's Fund was officially launched as a non-profit organization on January 5, 2013, the milestone 70th birthday of the organization's founder, Hawa Harriet Fahnbulleh-Wright, with people from all backgrounds and socioeconomic status in attendance.

Prominent community leaders including Reverend Edwin Lloyd, Sr., Mr. John Lloyd, Cllr. Mohamedu Jones, Cllr. Gayah Fahnbulleh, former Minister of Telecommunication, Mrs. MaCleod Darpoh, and a host of others were on hand to support the event. The keynote address was delivered by Ms. Saymendy Lloyd, one of Washington DC's most sought-after motivational speakers and activists. Ms. Lloyd, flanked by an entourage of board members of her charity organization, delivered a very inspiring message, encouraging and reminding the audience to believe in their dreams, "Yes, you can!"

Funds raised at the Foundation’s inaugural launch will be used to fund scholarship programs for Liberian students. In 2012 the Founder and then Executive Director, Mrs. Hawa Wright, returned from a fact-finding visit to Liberia and reported that students were in dire need of assistance in the form of tuition, uniforms, books, pencils, clothing, meals, and other necessities. From then on, she vowed to do whatever she could to help annually, hence the forming of Hawa’s Children’s Fund non-profit.
