Hawa's Children's Fund was launched in grand style on January 5, 2013, the milestone 70th birthday of the organization's founder. People came from all over to grace the occasion.
Prominent community leaders like Reverend Edwin Lloyd, Sr., Mr. John Lloyd, Cllr. Mohammedu Jones, Cllr. Gayah Fahnbulleh, Former Minister of Telecommunication Mrs. MaCleod Darpoh, and a host of others were on hand to support the event. The keynote address was delivered by Ms. Saymendy Lloyd, one of DC's most sought-after motivational speakers and activists. Ms. Lloyd, flanked by an entourage of board members of her charity organization, moved the audience in a very inspiring message, advising her audience, "Yes, you can!"
The Foundation raised hundreds of dollars, which will be used to fund scholarship programs for Liberian students. In 2012 the founder and C.E.O., Mrs. Hawa Wright, returned from a fact-finding visit to Liberia and reported that students were in dire need of assistance in the form of tuition, uniforms, books, pencils, clothing and even meals. She vowed to contribute annually.
